A Generous Gift from Children to Children

Children Helping Children
Each year through Children’s Cards for Charity, Ottawa students at the Rideau Park United Church Sunday School help children in need in Africa.
Initiated six years ago by Viola Ewing-Dolbec and her mother Janine, Children’s Cards for Charity facilitates the creation and sale of greeting cards according to a particular theme, and each year the group selects a different children’s charity to benefit from the proceeds.
This year the cards were designed according to the theme ‘Our Blessings’ and the CANHAVE CHILDREN’S CENTRE was selected as the charity to benefit from the production and sale of the special greeting cards.
“CANHAVE CHILDREN’S CENTRE certainly counts this gift and the opportunity to sell CANHAVE cards and dolls after the service as a blessing,” commented Gwynneth Evans, Volunteer Executive Director of CANHAVE in Ottawa. “Thank you very much to Olivia, Janine and Rideau Park United Church, the minister, Rev. Steve Clifton, and the congregation for their generous gift to Ugandan orphans.”
This creative project, which annually supports a specially selected children’s charity, is also used as an opportunity for students at the Rideau Park United Church Sunday School to learn about Africa and about how African families live. They also learn in a practical way, the meaningful lesson of how individually and collectively they can make a difference to help empower families in need.
